What is plastisol cladding?

Plastisol Cladding is produced from a hot dipped zinc coated high tensile steel sheet. This is then shaped into the required profile, then oven cured to ensure optimum adhesion. Plastisol cladding has become the material of choice for many commercial buildings; including agricultural, industrial and leisure buildings.

Why does PLASTISOL cladding deteriorate over time?

Weathering and ageing can cause cladding panels to crack and peel, as well as leaving the original cladding coating discoloured and faded. This not only looks unpleasant, but it leaves the cladding exposed to moisture which can lead to rust. Metal corrosion can lead to leaks and eventually mean the cladding panels need to be replaced. Not only is this expensive, it can cause huge amounts of disruption to your business.

Can PLASTISOL cladding be refurbished?

Yes! Plastisol cladding refurbishment is a cost-effective solution compared to replacement. By treating any initial signs of rust and applying a protective coating, you can extend the life of your cladding panels.

Benefits include:

  • Prolong the lifespan of the roof and walls
  • More cost effective than replacement
  • Minimal disturbance to the business
  • Protection against atmospheric, chemical and mechanical deterioration
  • Available in virtually any colour

How do you refurbish Plastisol cladding?

The process includes:

  • Surface preparation and high pressure wash down
  • Removal of any loose paint and corrosion by hand grinding
  • Application of gun-applied sealant to fill any gaps
  • Spray apply metal cladding primer and cladding coating

How long does a Plastisol cladding coating last?

Manufacturers such as RustoleumGiromax, HD Sharman, AkzoNobel and Tor Coatings offer warranty systems of up to 20 years when their bespoke specifications are followed for a job. Any good cladding coating company should also offer a company warranty, to guarantee the cladding coating system against peeling, blistering and cracking.

Case study of a Plastisol cladding coating

Cladspray Solutions worked on a 3,000sqm cladding coating project in Norfolk. Prior to starting the project, Rustoluem (the cladding coating manufacturer) provided a bespoke specification. Following thorough preparation of the building, the coating was spray applied. Rustoleum’s ICORR level 3 paint inspector visited the site to test the paint thickness using an Elcometer 456 dry film thickness gauge, ensuring specification had been met (see main picture). Both Cladspray Solutions and Rustoleum issued a warranty at the end of the project – extending the life of the plastisol cladding by 10 years.
