Static electricity can cause many problems if the flooring materials chosen are not appropriate for use in electronic processing areas. For our client, Lotus, their new robotised paint mixing room required the anti-static installation as any electrical charge could affect their industrial process and cause harm to personnel or product.
WHAT IS AN ANTI-STATIC EPOXY FLOOR COATING?
Anti-static epoxy floor coatings are designed to safely ground or dissipate the build-up of electro-static charge in sensitive environments. ESD (electrostatic discharge) is a natural hazard of a working environment, but if it’s not neutralised, it can cause damage or safety risk.
ANTI-STATIC FLOORING SPECIFICATION
Our coating partner (Flowcrete UK) offered a bespoke specification for the anti-static flooring system.
The specification included:
- Shot blast and diamond grind preparation
- Hydraseal damp proof primer due to the high moisture content of the substrate
- Laying a copper tape grid across entire floor
- Application of 2 coats of Flowcoat ESD SF41
ANTI-STATIC FLOOR PAINT
Flowcoat ESD SF41 is a high performance, anti-static and solvent free epoxy resin floor coating with adjustable anti-slip properties.
It’s suitable for use in areas such as electrical manufacturing and distribution warehouses. This system meets EN IEC 61340 anti-static requirements and is able to protect against a range of acids, alkalis, solvents, alcohol and fuel.
